Ice Skating with the Big KIds

Ever since I took Eliza ice skating, Daniel has been keen to go ice skating too. I haven't wanted to go with all 3 kids because Eliza found it tricky at the start and so I don't know that I could do it with all 3. Alexander would probably find it tricky and I didn't know how Daniel would pick it up. So Alexander's first day back at preschool for Term 3 provided the perfect chance to take the big kids ice skating. The ice rink is open but with limited numbers because of Covid so it worked well to take the kids because it wasn't too busy.

Daniel wanted to choose my earrings for the day. He chose snowmen because of going on the ice.

We got our skates, found some seats to put them on and headed to the ice. Daniel was keen to go on his own. This was how he started skating. The wall was his friend.

I pushed Eliza a bit more but she was keen to be with me for most of the time and holding my hand or skating holding the wall.

I was really surprised and proud of how Daniel went. He had a lot of confidence, was keen to focus and determined to learn to skate. Very early on he was keen to leg go of the wall to go around people.

The 3 of us ice skated together a bit.

The kids did pretty well to not fall over too many times. Although we did giggle with Eliza falling over in the background.

Eliza started to gain confidence with skating on the ice by walking on it.

She even tried doing some spins on the ice.

Daniel impressed me with the way he hopped up each time he fell down and kept going. Sometimes if he hurts himself he can focus on it and keep commenting about the pain but there was none of that at skating.

We moved both kids into the middle of the rink and they had fun skating there on their own.

We stopped to have a bit of lunch and then the kids were keen to skate again. Daniel started by wanting to skate by himself while Eliza and I finished eating. Then Eliza told me that she wanted to go skating by herself too.

Eliza was a little bit hesitant going on her own and was a bit wobbly. It was so so cute when Daniel went up to her and offered to hold her hand. Just the cutest!

The kids definitely grew in confidence.

It was fun skating with both of them at times too.

The more laps that Daniel did, the faster he got and the better he got a recovering from almost falls. He even surprised himself.

Eliza tried to skate backwards (not with much success but she gave it a go).

Ice skating was a success! We did more laps around the rink.

It was such a fun time. Daniel smiled the whole time and gave me a thumbs up at the end. I'm so glad that they both enjoyed it so much.

We finished the adventure with a Boost Juice. Always a great way to finish.
