Dinosaur Dig

I was trying to think of different activities that I can do for Alexander when he's home. On the Toddler Approved blog they linked to a dinosaur dig activity so I decided to give it a go.

Alexander and I made some saltdough, died it green and then made dinosaur and insect prints in it.

He loved seeing the colour of the water change.

The next day I buried the fossils in the sandpit and the kids had to dig for them (Daniel was home sick so got to join in the fun). I gave them each a shovel and a brush. For an hour Daniel and Alexander were occupied finding them, burying them and finding them again. It was quite a fun activity.

                                                                                                                Starting to dig

Alexander tried to use his digger but found it a bit too tricky.

The fun of trying to work out what fossils they found was great.

They started with just digging up the fossils, and I reminded them about using the brush. Then they started to remember to brush the sand away after they found the fossil.

Alexander also made a snake out of the left over salt dough. He was excited about finding it.

The kids then took turns hiding the fossils and having the other one try to find it.

It was a great activity. I've kept the fossils to save for another time.
