I was then chatting with Mum about it and she said that the recycling place actually does tours once in a while and maybe Daniel could go to that. I looked up the information and they did have a tour in December but it was on a school day. I was happy for him to miss school to do this so called them up to ask if there was an age limit. Unfortunately they said that everyone has to be over 18 years old for safety reasons. There are a lot of stairs too. I asked if there was anywhere else that I could take Daniel to show him or have him learn more about recycling and the lady said that she didn't think so. She then offered to make a goody bag for him (and then offered for Eliza and Alexander when she heard I had more than one kid) about recycling things. So sweet! After school I picked Daniel up and we headed to to local recycling place to drop off some soft plastics but to also collect the goody bags. They were great! Each kid got a small toy bin, some pompoms for each bin colour, activity books, chalk drawing, a board game, information and a bag to colour in with material textas. The kids loved it! There was also a brochure in it which had a diagram that showed how the recycling was sorted and sure enough, it was similar to the one in the Magic School Bus book.
Well done to Hornsby Council for having such a high value in recycling and caring for our environment. And thank you to the lady on the phone for making the bags for the kids who were so excited to go through it all and learn more about recycling and the importance of it.
