My heart sang the other week. I struggle to find time to stop and read my Bible. I wish that I had more time but most mornings are met with kids calling out to me, or I'm too tired to wake up early or I'm too tired at night to focus on the words. But I know it is a season and that this will change as the kids grow up and I get more 'me' time back. But for now I do it when I can and really enjoy it when I do it. One morning I managed to wake earlier and start to read my Bible. Daniel had woken and come into bed with me and was reading over my shoulder (have I mentioned how I love that he has started to read on his own this year?!?). He then started to ask questions. In my Bible Jesus' words are written in red. He was curious about this. I was reading the gospel of John. Daniel decided that he wanted to read Jesus' words. He looked over my shoulder and was sounding out the words that Jesus was saying. After reading a sentence he would re-read it more fluently and then either move on or as what Jesus meant. Oh how my heart sang!
I had finished reading the Bible and needed to start to get ready for the day. Daniel asked if he could keep reading my Bible. For sure kiddo!
The next morning I had already finished reading my Bible but Daniel came in, lay in my bed and asked if he could read my Bible again. Absolutely fine monkey! He then asked if at night times he could read his Bible but then read some of my Bible each night. Not the same pages as what we read in his Bible but read through more of what Jesus said. Absolutely! I can't think of anything better to do. I wish I had that keenness and eagerness to stop and read like Daniel showed me this morning.
I love that he is keen to read. I love that he is keen to read God's Word! My hope and prayer is that his desire to read Jesus' words will continue to grow and that they will transform his life. I hope and pray that he will continue to ask questions as he reads and come to a real understanding of who Jesus is. I hope and pray that Daniel (and Eliza and Alexander too) will come to know Jesus as their own personal Saviour. That they will know that the Bible's words are truth and God breathed. I hope and pray that he will find a groove and routine with reading his Bible and that he will love doing it and want to continue to read it. I hope and pray that he will show me the childlike faith that Jesus speaks about in the Bible and that that will challenge me to continue to grow in my walk with Him and my desire to know Him more. Thanks God for this time in the mornings of sitting, reading and chatting with Daniel about You!
