2020 Book Parade

This year we have missed out on different activities at school but Book Parade was not one of these things. We had a weeks notice to be creative and come up with books and costumes. 

Eliza and I came up with the book ‘Quick as a Wink, Fairy Pink’. We worked together to make a lovely costume and she looked perfect! She was quite excited when I suggested that we could paint her cheeks pink like in the book.

Daniel wanted to go as a character from Plants vs Zombies. This one we were a bit hesitant about. With it being a week out from Halloween, I wasn’t too sure about him going as a zombie. He wanted to go as an imp. The character looks cute but when I looked up what an imp was it’s a servant of Satan. James and I decided that that was a bit too specific and we didn’t want Daniel dressing as that, even though he wouldn’t understand what the term was. He understood why we were hesitant and was ok with changing his character. We looked at the different zombies in Google Images and decided on Nigel, a zombie with a bucket on his head. I managed to go to the Salvos to find some pants that I was happy to cut up, James gave him a tie and we used his blazer from his drama performance last year. I made a mask for him and laminated it and we cleaned out a gardening bucket for on his head. Then we used some chalk to make it dirty and dusty. He looked pretty amazing! Daniel kept commenting that he needed Nigel to be written on the bucket but I showed him the picture I found and it didn’t have it. The morning of, he showed me a picture of Nigel from in the books and the costume was totally different. The one that I found was from the computer game, not from the book. Oops. Oh well, he still looked like one of the zombies from in the book.

Of course, Alexander couldn’t miss out on being dressed. He popped on his Spiderman costume too for school drop off.

Alexander was keen to have his face painted but he had swimming lessons that morning. I told him that we could paint his face after his shower after swimming. He wanted some spiders on his cheeks - red and black ones.

The kids had a great day at school. Daniel said he won best dressed in his class. Eliza said lots of people dressed as princesses but she was happy to go as Fairy Pink.
