To finish off the year at Action Dance, Eliza had her dance concert. Normally they would do a performance for family and friends to go and see. She would have a pretty little dance costume to wear and would be so very excited. This year, like in most situations, was different. They still did organise a concert but it was recorded and will be sent out to us hopefully soon. They didn't have costumes because they weren't sure if there was going to be a concert so Eliza wore her regular dance costume.
We were sent out details for putting on make up and her hair being in a high ponytail. I did my best effort with the make up but it sure was stressful. I don't really wear makeup myself, and when I do it is very plain make up. I put on her foundation and she commented 'I look so much whiter with that on.' Ha. That's the opposite to why we put it on. I put some blush on her cheeks but not too much because I was worried she would look over the top. I put on some eye shadow but it was a pale colour. In the video they had putting on eye liner and mascara and lipstick but I really didn't feel comfortable putting all of that on her and I also wouldn't know how to do the eyeliner! I'd be nervous that I would poke her eye. But her teacher said that in this young group they didn't need all of that extra make up so that put my mind at ease. I put her hair in a high ponytail. She was ready to go.

We are so proud of Eliza and the way that she has pushed through dance this year. She started quite excited about it but in Term 2 when it moved to online lessons Eliza found it hard to stay motivated. Some weeks she would be silly, other weeks she would enjoy it, other weeks she would say she didn't want to do dance. But she persisted. She learnt new skills, she learnt to have confidence in herself, she learnt to have fun. I am proud of her for pushing through. I am proud of her for having fun. I am proud of her for going on the stage for the performance, even though she felt nervous. I am proud of her making new friends.
As we walked up to Barker where they were performing a girl was in front of us who was also going to perform. She saw Eliza's hair and commented that there were lots of fly away bits and her teacher told them that their hair was to be flat and not have any flying bits. Great. Another thing that I didn't get right. It didn't say anything about hairspray. Now I know for next year.
Anyway, I dropped off Eliza and then came back to pick her up after 1.5hours. When I picked her up, I noticed that her hair was sprayed flat and that her blush was a lot more noticeable. Eliza told me that her teachers said she needed to get more make up and hairspray. Oh well. I felt a bit like a Mummy fail moment but Eliza was excited about it and she had a lot of fun doing her dance so that's what is important.
She has had a lovely year, particularly dancing with her little friend April. April's mum has kindly picked Eliza up and dropped her off a lot of weeks. Eliza has loved the independence.
We will see what she wants to do next year with dance, but I am glad that she liked it and has frown so much in confidence.
