Swimming

This term Alexander has grown so much in confidence with his swimming. It has been awesome to see. He wanted Mum and Dad to take him to some of his lessons so I didn't see just how far he had come until they brought home videos of him learning to use long arms and then I got to see them for myself.

This time last year Alexander wasn't eager to swim in the pool by himself at all. He would only stand on the step and then would only swim if I was there in front of him, even just 1m in front. So I am amazed at how far he swam by himself in Judy's pool. We built up to it. He started swimming a short distance to me, then I would step back further and he would catch me. Before he knew it, he was swimming the whole length of the pool. You can see how excited I was about it.

Eliza has continued to work on her long arms while swimming and taking breaths. The lessons she is doing now is different but she has continued to improve so it isn't too bad a thing. She will get there. She also learnt to do forward rolls in the pool too.

And Daniel's swimming just seems to have clicked! His is using straight arms and he is breathing to the side. There was a time when I honestly thought he wasn't going to be able to swim properly. He was just struggling so very much with straight legs, straight arms and kicking but he is getting there. Now to work on the distance because he is keen to swim in the swimming carnival next year.
James came down after work and the kids showed him their swimming. He then started doing some classic catches with the kids. Alexander was keen to join in too which I was again amazed by! I knew that Eliza and Daniel were happy to jump into the water but Alexander had been so hesitant in the past. But he was keen so we went with it. He didn't catch the ball but he did still jump in and swim to the other side all on his own.

Eliza and Daniel also had some races down the pool which was fun too. Moments like this makes me wish that we did have a pool because they would have so much fun in it, but the maintenance of it all would just be too much so I get why we don't have one.

Amelia kindly invited us all around for a neighbours catch up one evening which was so lovely. The kids had an absolute blast in the pool and it was so nice to feel comfortable having Alexander in the pool with the noodle, even swimming on his own with his toes just able to touch the ground. I do love that we have so many kids around the same age in our street and that they get along. It was such a lovely blessing.
