AFL is here

After Daniel participating in the AFL AusKick at school last year and loving it we decided to offer him to play AFL this year with a club. He was choosing between AFL and soccer (because a lot of his friends at school play soccer) and he chose AFL so I signed him up to AusKick. He got an awesome pack for doing it, including a Sydney Swans shirt, a lunch box, a ball, footy cards and a ticket to 3 games (not that we need it but still, cool to get if we weren't members).

Last weekend Daniel had his first week at AFL (Hornsby Berowra Eagles) and he LOVED it! We bought him some shorts and socks and they gave him a guernsey. He looked awesome!

Number 35. I looked up the Swans number 35 and it is Sam Naismith.

They started the session with kicking practice. I loved watching Daniel's joy when he kicked the ball through the goal (although it was hard to spot him with all the blonde kiddies in their uniform).

In this one Daniel is the blonde on the right.
The kids then went for a jog and did some stretches. When they came back they did some drills - handballs, grubba kicks, etc.

The kids then did a little game. Quite funny to watch actually. They don't really have a concept of team play at this stage, they just want to kick the ball into the goals. Daniel was given a back position. I told him that his goals were at the other end and that he was more defense. The funny moment was when he got the ball and he got so excited so he ran to the other team's goal and kicked it through. He was so excited. When I told him that he kicked it into the wrong goal so it was only 1 point for the others, he said 'Oops. I forgot.' Hehe.
He did do a couple of good kicks to his own goal too. Especially the last kick of the game.

I hope he continues to love playing AFL and that he has lots of fun while learning and developing his skills. I'm sure he will.
