First week back at school 2023

The first week of all 3 kids being at school was a bit odd. I'd lost my buddy to school but it was also nice to have some time for myself. The days felt odd and at times when I was driving places, I'd feel like I'd left Alexander behind. But it was made much easier knowing that he was happily heading off to school. He was so so ready for it!

On the Sunday the kids were encouraged to wear their school uniform to church so they could go on stage and receive a gift from the church in excitement for starting school. He spoke so well about what he did at school on Friday. He was so cute. I do love that our church celebrates these milestones and recognises the kids as important and valued. Love being a part of this community.

On Monday Alexander needed to head into school by himself, parents were back to staying outside the school gates. What a big thing for a Kindy kid to walk into the school by themself. I loved that Daniel was willing to hold Alexander's hand as he walked in.

Monday afternoon, Eliza received her 5th Wow card at dance. This is their encouragement and reward system and it is great that she has been recognised multiple times for her effort and enthusiasm at dance. Proud of her!

On Tuesday James was up in Hervey Bay with his family. This meant that Alexander was a bit more fragile. We had a few tears before heading off to school and he asked if he could have a heart drawn on his wrist so we did. We drew hearts so that we could get hugs while he was at school and asked Daddy if he could also draw a heart on his wrist. He was more than happy to. We don't want to encourage the hearts again this year, but are happy to draw them when it is needed if it means that he heads off to school happily. (Mrs Kocx said that he was more than happy during the day which was great!)

After school we headed to Daniel's bass lesson. I printed off a nature scavenger hunt for the little ones to do while Daniel had his lesson. It sure helped pass the time.

Tuesday Fun Night I set up a smaller putt-putt golf game for the kids and I to play (they were super keen after Alexander and I heading to it last week). The kids had lots of fun trying to get hole in ones.

I'm trying to work out how to implement homework for Daniel to help him get into a rhythm before he heads to high school in a few years and gets a big shock! At the moment I'm looking at editing and helping him continue his hard work from his OT sessions last year. I'm proud of him that he hasn't really backtracked too much.

Alexander had his first sports uniform day.

We remembered Malcolm on his birthday with Malteasers, memories and then Malteaser ice cream. Continuing a nice tradition.

At night, Daniel was super helpful and wanted to fold the washing for me. Sure, it might have been an excuse to stay up at night, but I think it was also a bit genuine in wanting to be helpful too which it was. It's a lot of work when James is away to do all the things around the house. I am very blessed that he is such a hands on dad, but then when he is away it's all those extra tasks that make the days go longer.

Chilli decided to become cuddly this week with the kids which they loved.

This little guy came into my room in the morning, and then fell asleep again on me. Eeek. Made me feel very nervous that he might have been sick. Turned out that he was just tired and woke a bit too early. He was fine to head off to school again. Phew!

Eliza wanted to show Nana and Poppy her new tap shoes and some of her tapping skills. She is very excited to be learning tap!

Friday's cricket session was cancelled for Eliza and Alexander because it was too wet but Daniel's training session still went ahead. The kids had an absolute blast running around on the grass and playing in the puddles. Not often I will let them do this but for today it was well worth it for the joy they had.

Then at Daniel's cricket game the kids enjoyed sitting together under umbrellas, playing and eating. The highlight of this game though was the warm up activity with all the kids scooping out the water that had pooled on the pitch so they could play.
