Christmas Lights, Santa Run and Christmas Carols

For our Tuesday fun night James and I decided that we'd go for a drive around to see the Christmas lights. The kids were pretty excited. We looked up where some lights were but as it turned out, the best ones were back this way. It was nice to head out together and enjoy the lights. A highlight again was the house in Asquith that had the lights work to music.

We then on Sunday enjoyed our annual Fire Brigade Santa Run. So nice to be able to enjoy it after it was cancelled last year due to Covid. The kids headed down to Harry, Matilda and Jack's house to watch it drive past. It is so nice enjoying this with other families in our street. The kids loved waving to the fire brigade, to Santa and of course, collecting the lollies that they threw out for the kids. They also gave the fire brigade some cans of food to be collected for OzHarvest donations.

Hi Santa. Thanks for the lollies!

Then that afternoon we packed our picnic and walked to Headen Park ready for some Carols fun. The weather was not looking promising but the forecast said light rains so we were keen to still support it. We arrived in time to enjoy Daddy's band playing for a little bit and the kids enjoyed dancing to their music.

It was also exciting to have Oscar there, while he was working with Uncle Howie.

And then the next moment there was a big gust of wind and the rain started. Daniel took shelter under the sound desk area as they covered it all up to protect the equipment while Eliza and Alexander took shelter under my umbrella. Ministry of Rock were in the best place being on stage - the most protected.

The rain stuck around for 5-10mins, the team spoke about what to do next as it was forecast to have another downpour in around 30mins and most people left with this rain, but they decided to announce that we would go ahead. I posted on the Facebook page that we would still be going ahead so for people to come on down after the rain. I felt so sorry for James and Reid - all their hard work and they were so deflated. James just looked so flat after that announcement. But I'm proud of them for carrying on.

My post on Facebook. Some were very negative saying that another big storm was coming but others were excited that it was still going ahead.

The kids were excited to see Auntie Jenny when she came to pick up Oscar (who decided that he'd stay). I do love the connection she has with Eliza. It's a very special one.

The rain never ended up coming back (thanks God!!) and the Carols started. While the crowd wasn't as big as previous years, people did come back to join in, new people came and enjoyed it and community was there which is something that has been lacking over many years. The kids had a brilliant night, dancing, singing, playing with friends, enjoying glow sticks and then enjoying sparklers that Nana brought (although the sparklers struggled to light with old matches and the wind. Good thing Oscar was there to help!).

Instead of the predicted storm, we were blessed with this amazing sunset.

So lovely listening to Danni singing for the item

A big well done to the Carols team! So proud of James and all the effort that he puts in as one of the organisers. Proud of them for trusting in God and the vision of bringing the community together. It really was a lovely night (in between rains)

On our way home the kids and I walked past the local Christmas lights. It's always exciting for the kids after Carols. The lights were just as good as previous years.

With their glow sticks they join the decorations

Nice to see the place near our house at nighttime after walking past it each day.
