Each year in Hervey Bay the kids have made a gingerbread house with Maddie and Aly. So in preparation for heading up there for Christmas, I bought a kit. Well, thanks to covid and borders being closed, we didn't end up heading up there. Our Christmas Day was filled with so much food that we didn't end up making it then either. So it did provide a great chance for a holiday activity and the kids loved it!!
They each had a side of the house (Alexander had the 2 smaller sides) and then Eliza and Daniel worked together to make one roof and Alexander and I worked together to make the other one. It was cool seeing them try and use ideas that I had used on my houses. Things like Daniel making presents from the liquorice all sorts, Eliza making bunting above the door, etc. Pretty cool to see that they take in tricks that I do. Maybe one year I will let them help me... maybe... but not yet. Ha.
I gave the kids a bowl with some lollies in them for them to use. They could ask for more of something or swap between themselves, but overall they had their lollies to use. At the end I split the lollies up between them so no-one was upset.

The challenge came with building the house. Even with the tray to use, it still fell down and then lollies would fall off. I got there eventually but it was a bit of a frustrating time. Normally I start with building the house and then decorate it. The kids then got to put in their little snow person or tree.

They enjoyed eating it too. It didn't taste as nice as my one but that's ok. It was lots of fun for them to make and did fill in a holiday day.
