Somersby Falls

It is amazing when you find little treats close to home and Somersby Falls is one of those little treats. Jens messaged asking if we had anything on on 5th January and we didn't. She mentioned that she and Howie and Oscar were heading to Somersby Falls and wondered if we'd like to go. It was a little walk and for lunch. Sounded fun! It was just past the Reptile Park.

It was a beautiful day for us to go. We met up with Howies and then headed down the stairs to the bottom of the waterfall. It was pretty busy with lots of other people coming too.

I love how Oscar is always ok with holding Alexander's hand with these sorts of adventures.
They have a special bond.

A pause at the look out

Down the bottom of the falls was beautiful. I did immediately wish that I had taken a change of clothes for the kids but that was ok. We just asked that they try not to end up covered in the water. We took of our shoes and socks and enjoyed walking through the water, putting our feet and hands in the running water.

Still holding hands. Bless

Sisters
We had some morning tea down the bottom before enjoying the water again and heading up to the middle fall.

Blue sky!

Alexander just loves to do what Oscar is doing

Walking back up
In the middle falls section, there was a big pool of stiller water and the kids were so excited to see tadpoles swimming around in the water. The challenge became who could catch a tadpole. Daniel was amazing at it and caught quite a few!

'Oscar, I caught one!'

Hello little tadpole
Eliza wanted to go for a walk up to the waterfall so we did that. It was much more slippery on the rocks up there than I expected. Eliza slipped at one point but I managed to hold her hand so she didn't end up all wet.

must have a crazy photo

Then it was back to trying to catch tadpoles. Again, Daniel was catching so many, he just had the knack. He kindly shared the tadpoles into the others' hands.

Oscar then sharing it with Eliza
After many attempts Oscar didn't get how Daniel was able to catch so many. But he kept persisting and eventually caught one. He was pretty excited. Alexander also managed to eventually catch one too.
Will I ever catch one?

Winner!

Alexander's catch

This time of catching tadpoles lasted between half an hour to an hour. The kids loved it!
Daniel especially loved it. Each of the kids eventually caught their own tadpoles. Eliza was getting a bit bummed that she wasn't able to catch any, but then she eventually did! Very exciting.

Eliza wanted to go for a walk up to the waterfall again this time with Auntie Jenny. I do love the bond that they have. Again, Eliza slipped a little but Auntie Jenny was there to save the day. Phew!
We managed to pull the kids away from catching tadpoles to head up to the top of the falls and have some lunch. The kids were excited to see Uncle Howie again (who had been on the phone sorting out work calls).
After lunch the kids wanted to have a quick look at the top falls. Because it was close to the edge we said that they weren't able to go too far over. The kids did ok with remembering that but a couple of times they stepped behind me and slipped, landing on their bottoms. First Daniel, then Oscar and then Alexander. Each managed to laugh after the initial shock. Dear oh dear. At least they didn't end up sliding down the waterfall!

And of course the kids found more tadpoles to try and catch.

What a fun day! Thanks Howies for the idea and we will be back to visit Somersby Falls. They were just beautiful!
