These holidays I was keen to try and make some special family memories for the kids - do things that we hadn't done before. One of these ideas was to have a family sleepover in the loungeroom. James and I slept on the fold out lounge, Eliza slept on the fold out single bed and Alexander and Daniel both slept on their blow up beds.
The kids were so excited and so keen for it. Daniel brought out his air bed night light and put it on for us all.
We then put on a movie - Hoodwinked. The kids hadn't seen it before and I hadn't seen it for a while but I was pretty sure that it wasn't too scary. Of course, all movies tend to be scary for Alexander at the moment besides Bob and the Golden Hammer. But that's ok. It just meant that he started in his bed...
And then pretty soon after ended up in our bed on me. Daniel also got worried during it so he ended up on our bed too. Eliza was fine but wanted to sit up so she was on the other couch (she didn't want to be squashed).
I did secretly enjoy the cuddle with my boys.
The kids did enjoy the movie in the end which was good. Then it was time to go straight to sleep. Alexander went to sleep quite quickly. Eliza wanted to read a couple of books and so did Daniel. Eventually James and I turned off all the lights and went to sleep too around 9pm. Not too bad an effort for all of us. They just needed to stop talking and they were straight to sleep.
In the morning the kids woke at 6:30am (again, not too bad for having us all in the same room). We told them that they could read their books and we would keep sleeping. They didn't do too bad a job.
At 7 am we decided to surprise them with a few Bluey episodes. They were quite happy with that.
Again, the boys ended up in our bed, just because they could.
It was quite a nice night being all together. It gives us hope that we could start to sleep in single motel rooms instead of finding 3 or 4 bedroom air bnb places. It also gives us hope that we can do this more often. Even tonight Eliza asked if we could all sleep together in the loungeroom. Hopefully it has made one happy memory that will be a lasting one.
