Last year Daniel had one line. It was a short line and he mumbled it. Kinda blink and you missed him saying it. This year, Daniel told me that he had a big speaking part in the play. I asked him how he got it and she said he auditioned for it. I asked him if anyone else did and he said no. Fair enough. Prior to this I didn't think that drama was a very strong part for this kiddo. But I am pleased to say that he proved me wrong.
After a couple of weeks of having the script at school he brought it home to practice. A couple of times we ran through it reading it together word for word. I then decided that I'd try and see how he would go without reading it. The kid had memorised the script! I was amazed! We started to talk about expression and meaning in what he was saying. He was applying it.
Come the time for the performance we needed to get him a good costume. Daniel's character was George Bass. I used the help of Google to look up costume ideas and fortunately Salvos provided for me. White button shirt and a blazer for him. Chuck in my scarf and socks and his black jeans and voila! Mr Bass himself.
