Making Dinner

Being the school holidays, I was able to be a bit more relaxed with timing of things like bed time. With this in mind, I decided to let the kids help make dinner one night each. I do enjoy cooking with them, and I love that they enjoy cooking with me. I hope that this creates a love of cooking as they grow up, something that I didn't enjoy doing but has grown on me as the kids have gotten older.

The kids each got to choose a meal that they wanted to cook. Daniel chose Chicken and Vegetable Pasties, Eliza chose sushi and Alexander chose pizza. Each a delicious choice!

Daniel was first to cook. With him I tried to take a real step back and let him make the different parts. I did cook the onion (he doesn't like it hurting his eyes) and the chicken (I don't like them touching it raw so I do that part) but most of the rest of it he did. He carefully cut out the puff pastry, he spooned on the mixture and he folded over the edges then putting egg on top.
I especially love the reaction he did when he successfully cut the pastry.
His dinner was really nice!

Next up was Eliza. She was keen to make sushi. Not quite as easy as the pasties but why not give it a go! She did pretty well with the order of it all.
Rinsing the rice
Cutting the veggies
Stirring the rice mixture
Spreading the rice (I needed to help a little to get it all over the base)
Placing the fillings

And it is rolled
Can I eat it now?

Who made the sushi?
Eliza did! And she was pretty proud of herself.

Yum!
Last but not least was Alexander. He was keen for pizza. Now the kids have helped make pizza many times so this time I decided that we would make the base of the pizza too. It's a simple base with just flour and yoghurt that make it up. It takes a lot of kneading to bring it together and adding more flour so it isn't sticky. Alexander loved kneading the dough!
Pouring in the ingredients
Stirring
Sticky fingers
He needed Mummy's help to know how to knead properly
But he was getting good at doing it on his own too.
Eventually we made a ball of dough!

He then helped Daddy to put on the toppings.

Yummy pizza!

Thanks Kiddies! Next holidays we will need to do it again!
