Vivid

Vivid Sydney is an awesome light festival that is held in different areas, but a large amount is held in the city. James and I decided that we'd like to try and take the kids to see it this year but weren't sure how it would work with Alexander. Mum and Dad kindly offered to look after Alexander so we could take the big kids with us. This was very helpful because on Wednesday night it was raining on and off.

We drove into the city
and then had dinner in the food court as the lights started. We then headed upstairs to watch the lights on the MLC building - a frog! The kids giggled as it jumped and swam around the building. Even as it started the rain, it didn't deter the kids (or us).
We then kept walking up Martin Place and found some colourful trees. The kids then noticed a keyboard. A lady told us to have a go at playing it and then pointed out that the colours changed as they played the music.

We then wandered towards Circular Quay, stopping along the way to look at a few different displays. Eliza enjoyed watching the umbrellas/ballet skirts.
I loved watching the Waves. The lights are very creative.
We loved watching the Harbour Bridge and wondered why the lights kept turning off after a few minutes and then back on. We took advantage of the photos when the lights were on.

As we walked around the quay we saw a display and a lady said that we could enter it. It had started to rain so there was no line which was nice. As we entered the room a guy told us that it was the control room for the city lights. You could choose 2 colours to light up the Harbour Bridge. Daniel chose those 3 colours. You could choose a building and a light colour. He recommended the Shangri-la because you could see it. Eliza of course chose yellow, her favourite colour. Then you could chose the lights direction. Daniel got to chose that as well. Then you pushed a button and the lights turned off and then started to light up again. So cool!

We then kept walking around to look at the Opera House and the pretty colours.
We then started to head back to the car but couldn't help stop for some ice cream! The kids were just a little bit excited.
We then headed back to the car, via Martin Place again. We looked at the fountain and at the giant Waratah. James had a go at shouting into it to make it change its colour. Fun.

It was an awesome night and the kids loved it! We are so glad that we decided to go and that the rain didn't dampen the evening. If anything it probably helped as there weren't many people around enjoying the lights. We hope to go back again in future years as there are so many areas to see. We only saw one part of Vivid.
