(Written on 28th June)
Tonight after Daniel had been asleep for around an hour he woke screaming. When I went in he was looking at the wall, reaching up like there was something there and just was distraught. I tried to calm him, reassure him that Mummy was there. He then turned to his Craig Lowndes poster and started to scream again and kept saying to go away. The look on his face was quite scary. He was just so scared! I turned on his light and pointed it to the poster and reassured him that it was Craig Lowndes poster. Nothing to be worried about. He kept crying. I pulled him out of bed and gave him a cuddle. The tears continued and the fear. He was saying 'go away (something that I couldn't understand)'. This has happened once before and it totally freaked me out!
I stayed calm and kept speaking calmly. I held him and told him that Mummy was here and that he was safe. We went for a walk into the back room which settled him a bit and then returned to his room. I gave him more of a cuddle and asked him if he was ok.
He then said 'I want Eliza.' I asked him if he wanted Eliza to come in and he said yes. Fortunately she was playing quietly in her room so after calling her and asking her to come into Daniel's room, she came. I wish I had a camera to video what happened next. Eliza came up behind Daniel, put her arm around him and placed her head on his back and just said 'You're ok Daniel. You don't need to be sad. You're ok Daniel.' She stayed like this for over a minute. Tears started in my eyes. I asked Daniel if he felt better now. He nodded his head. Eliza looked up to me and said 'Daniel loves me a lot and I love him. He is happy when I'm here'. She then gave him a kiss on his back another cuddle and then went back to her room.
I love my kids! I love their love for each other. I love their compassion for each other when it counts. They sometimes want to kill each other. They sometimes (or often) drive each other crazy but when it comes down to it, they love each other so much. It is just so precious to see!
Daniel then climbed back into bed and fell asleep pretty quickly. James and I then prayed for Daniel. For protection and for God's angels to surround him and give him peace as he sleeps. To settle his mind and thoughts and let him rest. And the same for Eliza and Alexander too.
It all comes down to love.
