Family Ice Skating

Jens messaged me saying that she and Oscar were going ice skating and wondered if we would like to go. Alexander had been asking to go for a while and Eliza and Daniel were keen to go back so we decided it would be fun to do altogether. Eliza was happy that kids didn't have to wear their masks the whole time so was keen to go as well.

Alexander started being stuck to the wall.

I eventually convinced him to have a go at ice skating off the wall, holding my hand and trying to stand on the ice without holding the wall. He was hesitant but gave it a go.

It was lots of fun to be there altogether.

Alexander stuck with me a lot at the start.

Alexander started to walk on the ice without holding a hand. He was again hesitant but with his concentration tongue he was doing it.

We did mix up who we skated with too. Oscar was great with the kids, skating slower with them and encouraging when they did a good job.

Daniel worked on some new skills like spinning in circles and trying to skate backwards.

Again I was amazed at how well the kids did with ice skating, especially Alexander. His confidence grew so much! He went from holding hands to slowly walking, to running on the ice pretty quickly. The concentration tongue definitely helped him out.

Siblings skated for a bit together.

I liked that Eliza and Daniel wanted to hold my hand to skate for a little.

We paused and enjoyed watching the ice machine drive around (I remember enjoying watching that as a kid).

We then hopped back onto the ice and continued enjoying our skating.

I do love seeing the progress of Alexander's ice skating. He was so hesitant at the start and so unsure of what he was doing. He grew in confidence and in skill. Went from holding the wall, to holding my hand, to standing on the ice, to walking on it, to running and then step, step, step, glide. Even falling down didn't stop him. I was proud of him for getting back up and having another go. It was a fun activity to do altogether.
