For Tuesday Fun Night during Bluey week, we continued the Bluey theme by having a night of Here Come The Grannies. James and I (Marv and Hyacinth) dressed up in our room and came out to the kids who were waiting in the lounge room as a surprise.
The giggles from the kids were the best! They loved it! We spoke with grannie voices and walked with a cricket stump walking stick. The kids thought it was awesome! We then told the kids the plan for the night - we'd watch Grannies episode, then do a quiz to see how well we knew the episode and then we would call Nana J and Nana and Poppy to ask them the all important question - can Grannies floss? I love that both our parents got into it and gave flossing a go. They did really well too!
We sent the kids off to get dressed as their own Grannies and they came up with their own names - Daniel was Janette, Eliza was Rita and Alexander was Grannie. They wore their towels over their heads and had some star glasses on and they also spoke with awesome grannie voices.
There were giggles and great delight as they watched the Grannie episode. It is a funny one as they pay out older generations and their technology use as well as their dance moves.
Then we did the quiz. There were questions like who danced during the credits, who wears glasses - Rita or Janette, Who does Nana floss with, what sound does Bluey make when right, what doesn't get hit by the car? We did pretty well as a team, only answering 1 question completely wrong. Not too bad for a bunch of grannies.
Then the fun part. We called Nana J up and introduced her to the Grannies. Then Janette (Daniel) asked if Grannies or Nanas can floss. I had messaged the nanas earlier to make sure they were ok with being asked the question and Nana J was so cute because she had been practicing how to floss during the day. She did an awesome job and the kids loved flossing with her! They gave her a big cheer. We had a bit of a chat with her to see how she was going and then we said bye.

We then called Nana and Poppy. It was so funny at the start because Poppy was very similar to the episode. of Grannies in holding the iPad up too high, down too low. The kids were calling out 'Up Poppy. No, down Poppy'. I have no clue if it was on purpose or if it was just by chance but it was the best!
The kids then asked Nana and Poppy if Grannies (well Nanas and Poppys) can floss. Of course Dad couldn't resist a Dad joke and went and got his flosser to show the kids saying 'Yes, this is how I floss'. The kids loved it shouting back, no the dance. Then Poppy gave it a go and did quite well too. Then Rita (Eliza) asked Nana if she could floss. Nana asked Eliza to help teach her and then they did Flossing together.
Grannie (Alexander) was a bit sad feeling left out of asking a question so he asked if Grannies can touch their toes. Nana gave it a go and was able to. Then Poppy gave it a go and got there too. They had a little bit of a chat and then it was time to say bye and they flossed together as we hung up the call.

Our kids have the best grandparents ever! It made me think of Grayma and how she was willing to give things a go for us - even trying to floss with Eliza when aged 91. Pretty special memories. We also spoke about if Boompa would have given it a go and we figured that he would have had a go too.
Thanks Grannies (and Grandpa) for providing such a fun night for us all and staying connected through lockdown.
