We are now at the end of Week 8 home learning. This week had its ups and downs big time. I think we had our worst home learning day followed by our best. But I do see that making it to week 8 before having meltdowns is a huge improvement on last year and is pretty good. Anyway, onto running through the week. This week was Bluey theme. Alexander loves Bluey (as you can see through his party) and it has many learning opportunities so it is a great topic to do. The only downside is that a lot of Bluey is play based which added to my own expectations of making it more play based learning and trying to free myself up to play with him. Tricky to do.
Monday morning was an introduction to Bluey. After writing his name and drawing Bluey at the bottom of his page we then made a Bluey headband. We did also have the things to make a Bingo headband but he did loose interest, and also was very excited to be Bluey.
We read a couple of pages of 'Where's Bluey?' and Alexander kept giggling when I pointed to him and said 'I found him!'
Then we hopped into the car to head to preschool quickly to pick up an easel from them. When Daniel and Eliza were at preschool they had an easel which you could see through. Someone sits on the other side of the easel and you then paint the person you can see on the other side. Daniel and Eliza both had the chance to paint Daddy and he has their paintings up on his wall, but because of Covid Alexander hasn't had that chance. James and I were talking about how he would have loved to have Alexander's painting of him too. I messaged Jill asking if we could borrow the easel for the weekend so that Alexander could paint James and she was more than happy to lend it to us. Winner! So we popped to preschool to pick it up and were also able to have a lovely chat with Georgie at the gate. I did leave feeling a bit sad because I miss them all so much but also excited about the easel. When we got home we snuck the easel into the downstairs cupboard because Daddy shouldn't be going in there this week as all his keyboards are set upstairs. This way it would be a surprise on Sunday, Father's Day.
We got back home for Alexander to do his preschool zoom session. Eliza had finished her work and wasn't sure what to do. She had already done some writing about Edward the Emu so I got our book which also had Edwina the Emu book and we went and sat on the front lawn to read them both. We then spoke about Edwina and her characteristics and Eliza headed back inside to write some responses about Edwina. I was proud of her for pushing herself and doing some more work that wasn't set by school.
Once Alexander's zoom finished I needed to hang out the washing. During this lockdown I have noticed that Alexander often wants to be where I am during the learning times. He isn't very keen to sit and do an activity inside while I'm outside hanging out the washing so today I decided to hide some Bluey toys in the backyard so that while I hung out the washing he could play Hide and Seek Bluey toys. He had a great time running around trying to find all of them and I was able to hang out the washing. Win Win! He also surprised me when he did maths to work out how many more Bluey toys he needed to find. He is turning out to be quite good with his maths.
With a few of the last ones we played Warmer/Colder so that he could find them. He does enjoy playing that game.
We went back to finish off the Where's Bluey book. He is really good at finding the different things. Much faster than me.
Next up we made a Bluey chatterbox. He had fun asking us colours and numbers to find out what Bluey quote applied to ourselves.
Alexander then had a fun time playing the paper piano along with the Bluey intro.
We then moved to the real piano. He hasn't really played the piano properly so doesn't have knowledge of the notes or anything really but he was willing to give it a go. As you can see in the video he got halfway through the song pretty well. I was really impressed with him! But really he was more keen to just play the piano for fun.
He preferred to play the Bluey intro this way instead.
Daniel was keen to have a go and he did quite well after not touching the piano for over a year.
Alexander wanted to show Daddy how he played the Bluey intro on paper keyboard.
I then started to get lunch ready and Alexander came and asked if I could make Bluey sandwiches... ummm... no. Unfortunately not. Then I remembered that there was a recipe for making Bingo toast so asked if he wanted to help make that. He was keen. We didn't have all the ingredients so we had to improvise a little bit. But overall it worked out (although Daniel did say it looked nothing like Bingo). It was still fun and tasty.
Lunchtimes have been a lot of bike riding and Daniel has even made himself a mountain bike track complete with jumps and bumps. Very creative.
The trampoline has also become popular again with the kids. Eliza and Alexander have a blast playing crack the egg most days.
After lunch Alexander came in an drew a picture of Bluey. He did pretty well. He then painted Bingo from his plaster paint pack.
At bedtime Alexander and Eliza wanted to read the Bluey magnet book together which was a bit cute. They had fun playing different scenes with the magnets and being creative.
Lara very kindly popped around and dropped off a care pack (more a sugar pack) to keep going through lockdown which was lovely. A great encouragement after so many weeks of doing life groups on zoom.
Tuesday morning started with music lessons. Eliza changed her piano lesson to being the teacher. She decided to teach Alexander how to play some of the songs. He was keen for one or 2 but then said, 'Nah. I just want to play like this' and then just played all the keys for fun.
Then the morning got tricky. I was getting ready for the day and I heard Alexander and Daniel arguing over something. It continued and there was a bit of shouting and then I realised they were in the understairs cupboard fighting over where the ball box should be. As I came out I realised that James was in the cupboard trying to sort it out. The problem was that James wasn't supposed to be in the cupboard because that was where we hid the easel Not cool. I told him to leave it, I got cross at Daniel for making an argument over something that wasn't really an issue and I got annoyed at Alexander for getting upset about it too. I just wanted the easel to be a nice surprise for James. So then I was pretty upset because the kids were just focusing on themselves and not on James. Anyway, I had a cry, I got grumpy and I told James that I was sorry and annoyed because it was a surprise for him. He honestly said that he hadn't seen what was in there, he just realised that something was there that he shouldn't see so nothing was spoilt.
Anyway, Mainly Music helped improve my mood. It was just so lovely to see the mums dancing and singing with their kids and the joy that it brought me was just amazing. This ministry is such a blessing. We made Father's Day cards which were pretty cute. Alexander made one for his Daddy and I made one for mine. We then hid them away until Sunday.
Alexander and I then read Bluey Fruit Bat and watched some videos about Fruit Bats. He then did an activity to learn about Nocturnal and Diurnal animals. He did a pretty good job at sorting the different animals. I loved that he called bats, 'octurnal' like they do in Bluey.
At recess time Daniel wanted to have a go at playing hide and seek Bluey figurines so I hid them while the other 2 played on the trampoline and then he ran around finding them.
Then after recess the kids watched a Bluey episode. The plan was to watch Fruit Bat but it wasn't on there so instead they chose to watch Movies and they had many giggles.
For Maths Eliza was learning about money. It was pretty cool to see her interest and excitement as she realised different features on money - Is this the Queen? (when looking at a $5 note), This is where the boss of Australia lives (when looking at Parliament House), Look at the lizard on this coin (when looking at a New Zealand 5c coin and realising it wasn't Australian money).
Alexander and I then went outside and he lay on the grass while I traced around his arms and made some fruit bat wings. I then cut them out and sewed the material together with some elastics at the end of the wings and ribbon in the middle to make him a fruit bat costume. All this while helping Eliza with her maths too and encouraging Alexander to colour in some wings.
We then headed outside to spray the textas on the coffee filter paper and watch the colours spread. It was pretty cool to come back and see the difference the colour made. We had to wait for the paper to dry before we could make our fruit bats.
At this point I had finished making Alexander's fruit bat wings so he tried them on and they worked really well. He had a blast flying around the backyard. He even hung upside down like a fruit bat does.
I love this photo.
(Thanks to Daniel for taking the photo)
We then headed inside for him to hang upside down on the couch. Daniel and Eliza wanted to join in too. He came back to this position a few times in the week which was a bit cute. Maybe it's because we don't normally let them lie on the couch like this...
Our postie is awesome - Postie Pete. The kids ran out to see him and Alexander was excited to tell him that he is a fruit bat. He listened and said that it was really cool and asked if he was going to fly away. Very special to have an awesome postie.
Alexander then made a night sky picture and stuck down his photo of being a flying fruit bat because fruit bats are nocturnal animals.
He wanted to play hide and seek Bluey figurines again as a fruit bat so the deal was that he needed to flap his wings as he flew around.
In the afternoon Alexander drew a picture of a fruit bat while the big kids did some science and geography.
Daniel chose to kick the AFL ball around for PE. He does miss playing AFL. It also involved climbing trees to rescue the ball that got stuck in the tree.
For afternoon tea I made a fruit bat plate - it had watermelon and passionfruit (fruit), raisin toast (fruit bread) and a fruit chew lolly. Yum!
In the afternoon Eliza and Ems played some computer games with each other including doing some colouring in.
Alexander and I also finished off the watercolour spray fruit bats
For Tuesday Fun Night we continued the Bluey theme by having a night of Here Come The Grannies. We dressed up, we spoke with grannie voices and walked around like old people. The kids thought it was the best! We watched Grannies episode, then did a quiz to see how well we knew the episode and then we called Nana J and Nana and Poppy to ask them the all important question - can Grannies floss? I love that both our parents got into it and gave flossing a go. They did really well too! I have written a seperate post about the night because it was so fun and special!
Wednesday was BBQ day. Alexander has a little Bluey BBQ figurines set so I brought that out and he was able to set it up and have a little play. It wasn't a huge play (he doesn't seem to do that too much with little toys. It's more Eliza's style of play) but it was still a little bit.
He then moved into the backroom and dressed up in his chef's clothes and started make a play BBQ for his toys. He was very keen to BBQ pizza for them. I loved the concentration as he picked things up, moved pizza pieces around, decided if it needed a bit longer to cook or not. He also wanted to make some iced tea for them too. And then he decided to make the biggest burger that he could. It was almost taller than the teddy who got to eat it!
He then decided that they needed a fruit salad to go with the BBQ lunch too.
Recess time Eliza and Alexander played with the BBQ set (definitely right up her alley of play).
Then it was time for Alexander to make a salad for our lunch. He chose which veggies would go in it and then spent time chopping the pieces and putting them into the bowl. We had spinach leaves, carrot, cucumber, tomatoes, capsicum (red and green). Yum!
Then it was BBQ time. I was quite excited about this time for Alexander and James to be spent BBQing together. Very special.
Meanwhile Eliza was learning about money and adding money. She was doing pretty well overall. It helped having some actual money to work out the totals and to understand what was dollars and cents. At one point she was getting confused with $5 + 10c + 10c + 10c and was saying it equalled $35 but we worked it out with proper money and she got there.
Alexander started with BBQing corn. He did really well to pick up the corn on the cob with the tongs.
Then it was time for sausages. He was nervous about putting the sausages on because of the BBQ being hot but he was brave and gave it a good go.
Once they were cooked he was even brave enough to take the sausages off.
It was nice to sit outside and have lunch together and Alexander had done a great job with cooking the sausages.
The big kids headed back to do their tasks and Alexander and I headed outside to do some vegetable painting. It was a bit of a fun activity that I saw and thought we could have a go. He is a funny kid though because while he was keen to do the painting he really didn't want to get paint on him so he wasn't heaps keen. I convinced him to have a bit of a go. He said that he would do 1 picture and he enjoyed it a bit. But he also didn't like that paint went on his hands and he needed to go and wash them after. Alexander thought he might give the celery a go because the paint didn't go on his hands, he could use it a lot like a paint brush. As he finished his painting he called it 'Raining Celery'.
He said that he was finished after his 1 painting so I had a go. I used the different vegetables to make a vegetable person - potato for the head, capsicum for the body with celery to add a pattern, corn for the arms and pants, carrot for the feet, celery for the mouth, celery leaves for the hair and cucumber for the eyes. I thought it was pretty cute.
We then headed inside and played BBQ Bingo. The Bluey magazines from Hervey Bay trip have really come in handy this week. He found it very funny when he pulled out poo for the Bingo board because you missed a turn but you also had to wash your hands before you got to have another go. Who would think to put poo as an option in a BBQ bingo game?
We then headed to the back room to make a BBQ menu using the catalogues from shopping. He did start to get the giggles and cut out things like undies and DVDs but we got there in the end to make a nice BBQ menu. I had to laugh when he got the can of beer for Daddy because Daddy would have that at a BBQ.
Eliza had to draw a picture of a special place at her home and she chose to draw her dressing table in her room. When I asked her why she drew that she said 'It's because it was Grayma's dressing table and it's very special to me that I get to have it in my room now.' I do love moments like this.
In the afternoon our beautiful neighbour Matil came down and asked if the kids could go outside to explain to her their different artworks in the art gallery. So very sweet. They loved showing her their own artworks and telling her about how they made them. I do love the street that we live in!
Once back inside Alexander realised that he didn't serve his fruit salad to his friends sitting at the table so he got back to work at serving that up.
The big kids wanted to do a bit of Art for Kids Hub drawings like what Alexander had been doing during the week. They made a bat and Bluey while Alexander drew a BBQ. This YouTube site has just been wonderful during lockdown.
Thursday morning I woke at 6am ready for the day. I got up at 6:30 and organised the backroom for the start of school. I was feeling that it would be a good day because I felt organised at least for the start and for Alexander's day. We even started the day by watching the Bluey episode of Bob Bilby. Surely it would be a fun day. How wrong could I be!!
The kids did their warm up hand exercises like normal - Daniel did the pegs on the pencil, Alexander did the race track on the whiteboard and Eliza did the pop it followed by putty. Only problem was that she accidentally didn't move the pop it away when she started pulling the putty. This meant that the putty went on it and we now know that putty sticks really well to plastic.
Oh dear. In hindsight I definitely over reacted to the situation, but in the moment I just couldn't believe it. Why didn't she move it away? What could I do to clean it? I was nervous about having the putty stay on it because I didn't want it to come off on the couch or carpet or anything, but I just couldn't get it off - not with water, with other putty, or with my fingers. I was quite frustrated and annoyed. Poor Eliza was in tears, I new it was an accident but I just was annoyed. I calmed down a little and told her that it's ok. We will work something out but it might just need to be stuck on it from now on. She calmed down enough to start her school work.Alexander and I then made him a Bob Bilby. It was great having a magazine with the pieces to cut out that he got from Nana J for his birthday. Perfect gift. We used sticky tape to put all the pieces on one of my old socks.
While Daniel did zoom and Eliza did some of her work we read the Bob Bilby magazine story with Bob Bilby and then read a couple of Bilby books that we had - Baby Bilby where do you sleep? and Bouncing Bilby. Bob loved the stories.
Alexander then tried to see how high Bob Bilby could bounce on the trampoline. It was pretty impressive (you can also hear in the background the tone of voice that I was getting for the start of the day for help from Eliza. The tone is hard to hear some days). They watched some information videos to learn about bilbies. Very cute watching them together. He then wanted to watch another video from Taronga Zoo of the seals. How could I say no, they are an awesome thing to watch.
Bob Bilby helped Alexander write some facts about bilbies (not great for his pencil grip but he was keen for it so we just rolled with it.) He then took Bob for a drive around in the Big Red Car.
Meanwhile I had Daniel who had a narrative writing task. This is what broke us last year - writing in general but specifically writing. It was good that Alexander was occupied because I could then help Daniel. During the week Daniel had a picture that he was exploring, coming up with ideas about what might be going on in the picture, describing the characters and the scene. Then out of the blue this morning he was asked to write a narrative about the picture, thinking what happened before, during and after the photo. His whole body language changed. He got stuck. I asked him to come up with where it was happening, he said he wanted to writing about what happened before because that is what they were told to do. So we worked on the brainstorming and slowly managed to come up with before, during and after. But then that was where it stopped. He needed to start the narrative but he didn't know how besides 'Once upon a time' which he knew wasn't a good start for the story.
Meanwhile I had Alexander coming up to me asking what he could do. I sent him to play the piano which he enjoyed doing with Bob Bilby.
Daniel asked if he could move onto his maths and then come back to he writing. I said no because he would be more tired so it would be better to do the writing while he was fresh. Looking back this was a poor decision on my part. A break is probably what he needed. But I pushed him on in his writing. So with one kid with his head in his hands I moved to play a game with Alexander because he was wanting to do that and in the back of my mind I knew that Bob Bilby days mean that they need to be doing stuff, not just sitting watching the iPad or getting bored. Another self pressure that I put on myself. Alexander and Bob Bilby had a turn with some cards and I was guessing. Alexander helped Bob when it was too tricky for a sock puppet to act out.
Meanwhile Daniel was still sitting there with his head in his hands stuck.
I apologised to Alexander and Bob Bilby and decided that I needed to go and help Daniel a bit. We sat down and spoke about the structure of a narrative and needing to set the scene. What sort of day was it? Where are you? The normal - who, what, when, where, why questions. He got when - a Sunny day - but then he got stuck on who. He wanted to write 'a little girl' because that was what was in the picture. I asked him if a name would be better, he said no. I spoke about how in his books, the characters had a name but he just couldn't come up with one. I asked him what a little girl's name was and he said 'I don't know'. Now I was sitting with Eliza trying to play a maths game with her and Eliza said 'Eliza'. Yep, you have a sister with a girls name, and a mum. I asked him for another name. He couldn't come up with one. For 10-15mins Daniel sat there head in his hands because he couldn't come up with a girls name. This was concerning me because that wasn't the hard part to do. He should be able to say a name. He just got so fixated on the whole writing task and not knowing how to do it that he wasn't even able to break it down.
Now Alexander had moved onto making a BBQ lunch with Bob Bilby and then he moved into playing with cars in his bedroom.
Daniel and I were both in tears now. He was getting annoyed because I was saying he wasn't trying and I was worried that he wasn't able to come up with a girls name. I was upset because it felt like he wasn't even trying and the guidance that I was giving him just didn't feel like it was being accepted. He wanted to go and lie on his bed because that is where he can think well. I asked him what he would do in the classroom if he was stuck for ideas, he said just sit with his head in his hands for the lesson. That explains why his writing went so downhill last year because he must have done that in class and the teachers didn't pull him up on it and ask to help him. It was a tough morning. After 1.5 hours Daniel had come up with a sentence. We sent through the work that he did and I wrote a message to Mrs Fearnside painting a picture of our morning and saying that it just wasn't great. He just got so stuck on needing to write a narrative that he couldn't break it down at all.
I told the kids that we would have lunch and then we were going to go for a walk with Bob Bilby down into the bush to the little waterfall and do some boat racing. We all needed a break from school work. We all needed a chance to get outside so we all took it. I was feeling so very flat at this stage. It had just been a hard morning for us all. I was feeling like I was letting Daniel down because I couldn't help him break down the writing task. I was feeling like a bad Mum because I was telling Alexander to just go and play on his own while I helped Daniel. I was feeling bad for Eliza because while playing the game with her I was in tears and still trying to help Daniel with his writing. I was feeling like a poor teacher because I couldn't seem to help explain the writing task to Daniel in a way that would help him.
On the way to the bush we bumped into Marcus and Carmen and they asked how today was going. I told them the truth and had tears and Marcus said he was there on Monday. It's just so hard. All that I needed to do now was go for the walk, enjoy the time with the kids and not worry about the school work getting done. Easier said than done really. I think the teacher in me really struggles to just leave the school work that has been set, even when I know it isn't going to really be teaching them anything important.
We headed down to the bush and Bob Bilby enjoyed his walk. We took my old digital camera for the kids to take photos of each other, like they did in Bluey (although they used a polaroid camera) which they loved using. They each took turns with Bob Bilby and each took turns taking photos. The rule was that they could ask to take a photo of something or at a certain place because I didn't want to stop every 5 seconds while on our walk. The kids did pretty well. It was lots of fun racing leaf boats down the waterfall and climbing trees. It was a nice and much needed break!

As we walked back Marcus messaged to say pop in on our way past. He had just been to the shops and had bought a few blocks of chocolate. He said that I could have my pick of the blocks to help me through the rest of the day. For some people alcohol is their happy place on a hard day, for those who don't have alcohol like me then it's good to have some chocolate. What beautiful friends to have! When I got home the block of chocolate was opened and enjoyed and it did bring a smile to my face.
When we got back home we did go inside to finished off the afternoon work. It was a bit of science for the kids and Alexander played magic xylophone on the Bluey website.
I then spoke with Daniel about the day. I was much calmer but still quite teary. I told him that he could do this work. I told him that I had confidence in him. I don't care if his work doesn't make sense. I don't care if it isn't the best story I have ever read. I don't care if it has mistakes in it. What I do care about is that he has a go, and from my perspective it felt like he didn't give it a go because he couldn't even come up with a girls name for 10-15mins. I told him that what I would love was for him to sit down at some point in the afternoon and have a go. To put his ideas down on paper and write a story about the picture. He agreed with me that he didn't put in his best effort and understood that all we expected was that he have a go. He said he might have a go again at bedtime. I told him that I was proud of him.
We then headed outside for Bob Bilby to go for a bike ride with Alexander.

I was upstairs at bedtime (I needed to tag out for the day) and James brought Eliza up. My sweet girl was in tears. She had been carrying the burden of feeling that my day was horrible because she got putty on the pop it and it was all her fault. Oh my word. This broke my heart! I had totally moved on from that moment. Yep, it wasn't great but it also wasn't the end of the world. I apologised for overreacting to that moment and I apologised that she felt she had made my day horrible. I felt so so bad! We had a big hug, I told her that I was sorry and that I was so very proud of her. And that maybe next time just try to clean up before moving onto the next task. I was exhausted. But she went to bed knowing that she was loved and that it wasn't her that made my day horrible. It was my approach to things and I was just having an off day. Tomorrow would be a new day. I was holding onto that truth.
It is amazing the difference that a day makes! Today is the polar opposite to yesterday. Daniel was keen to start work early - finishing off the tasks that he didn't get around to yesterday and starting work on today's tasks straight away. Eliza was happy to sit down and do her work and Alexander has been happy playing by himself and then coming and doing some activities with me. My head still feels tight after all the tears yesterday but my heart is happy and full because today is a good day. It also helps that today there is hardly any work for the kids to do so they are wizzing through their work.
Today was Daddy's turn with Bob Bilby. Alexander decided that he wanted Bob Bilby to be passed around each family member and we would write a diary entry for each person like what they did on Bluey. Then Alexander wants us to each present our pages. Pretty cute idea.
Today was Bluey Beach day. We started the morning by watching Beach together. I was a bit nervous because yesterday was such a tough day but the kids showed me that I didn't need to be worried about anything.
Alexander started his day by lining up his cars and counting them. I was very keen to just let him do child directed learning today so I was going to try really hard to not push my agenda and instead just enjoy going with the flow.
We did a few activities to get ready for Father's Day - each kid wrote in the special events book to Daddy, Daniel made an Origami shirt card for Daddy (as part of his learning) and Eliza made a search and find in her book for Daddy (because she had finished all her work quite quickly).
Alexander and I played Bluey War with his Bluey cards because he wanted to play a Bluey game. We made blue jelly to be ready for afternoon tea.
Then we headed outside to act out the story Beach with his Bluey toys. It was very cute to watch him act it, to see his interpretation and to see how many lines he could remember from the book (a lot!).
Recess time all 3 kids were keen to play with the Bluey toys and act out some of the beach scene.
Daniel was actually keen to just keep working this morning and not have a break but I wanted him to have a pause. He even decided that he didn't want to watch the 10am education video (which is something that he is keen to watch every day).
Alexander came in and wondered what he could do. I had a couple of options for him and he chose to paint the beach. He used yellow and blue. When it dried he then put some silver and gold stickers on the sand which was a cool idea. He then had fun playing Keepy Uppy on the Bluey website.
I am often having lunch on the lawn out the front while the kids have it at the table outside. But most days I have a little visitor or 2 or 3 who come and join me. Bless, but it would be nice to have a bit of a break. Often it does lead to nice chats though which I am grateful for.
The kids had finished all their work for the day (even before lunch!!) so I sat outside while they rode their bikes. Eliza then decided that she wanted to play a game but I couldn't go inside because I needed to keep an eye on the other 2 on the road so we put down a picnic blanket and started to play Eureka out on the front lawn. Alexander then decided that he wanted to play a game too. He started with Kerplunk (not a good idea because it has many marbles that I didn't want to go everywhere) so he went back inside and came back with Trouble. So I then started to play both games at the same time - tricky juggle to make. While I juggled it did help Eliza to win some more of the Eureka cards. Then Daniel wanted to have a game too so we played when Alexander and I had finished. All the while Eliza and I continued to play Eureka.
I then popped out to pick up Eliza's Father's Day gift for Daddy. The school organised some local organisations to make some hampers (meat hamper, sweet hamper or savoury hamper). Eliza was keen to get the savoury one so that Daddy (and her) could have some olives. Very exciting! She surprised him when I got home and he was very excited. Half the box disappeared in that moment. He said that he loved it heaps because they are foods that they both enjoy having. Special.
James headed back upstairs to work and the kids did a Bluey exercise video to do their PE element for school.
Their celebration food for finishing week 8 of home learning were Bluey and Bingo biscuits, Alexander's Blue jelly and some fruit bat skewers. They also enjoyed watching an episode each of Bluey.
So this week definitely had the hardest day and the easiest day in our home learning journey. Daniel and I have spoken about just having a go with his writing tasks because he can do it. He just needs to believe in himself. Eliza has continued to persist with the week. And Alexander had fun doing his Bluey tasks and being creative like the Bluey episodes. I need to make his learning more play based than school based which I am finding tricky to do, especially when he wants to have a play with others (mainly me because the big kids need to do their school work). I need to be more flexible and take a breath with the learning times, particularly when things get tricky. But also, I'm very proud of myself that it is week 8 before I have had my meltdown moment and Daniel has had his. That is a huge improvement on last year and I am really proud of myself for trying to make the most of these days while we are at home.
