This year I turned 37. I didn't really know what to expect for my birthday this year with it being during Covid-19. I was woken by James and the kids with cuddles and kisses and then was given my birthday present. What a great surprise! Friends LEGO.
Normally the kids would have gotten presents too but it wasn't possible with Covid to take the kids safely to the shops. They were a bit unsure of what to do, especially because they didn't know the present they gave me, but were excited that it was Lego.
Daniel and Eliza got ready for school and I had a day with Alexander. Birthdays sure aren't the same with kids. Today wasn't much of a day doing what I would like to do, but instead doing what Alexander wanted to do. But that was ok. It was a nice day.
We played Tickle The Whale (Alexander got upset because most of the time he made the whale pop up)
We played Game of Life. It was actually quite fun to play with him. He was so keen to have kids. Wonder if that will be the case as he grows up.
He wanted to play Pit Stop/Racing Cars. Not the funnest game for me but he had a lot of fun playing it. It started with me being the driver and he was the Pit Crew. I needed to drive around the house and if I crashed I had to go into pit lane to get fixed.
We then switched roles and he rode around the house and visited me at Pit lane to have his bike/car fixed. Again, he had a blast. Wasn't the funnest game for me. I also kept doing things wrong according to Alexander - the difficulties of trying to play an imaginary game with a 4 year old. But he enjoyed himself which was important.
He then wanted to head upstairs to play Putt Putt Golf.

Then James decided that he wanted to take me out for lunch. Alexander and James took me to the Brook cafe at Cherrybrook. It was really nice to head out to a cafe (something we hadn't done since lockdown started) and have a tasty meal cooked for us. I enjoyed my seafood linguine. Yum!
I got a special treat after lunch when James decided to take Alexander for a drive to get some birthday cupcakes for us to celebrate together after school. I took advantage of the time to do something for me. I made a cup of tea and sat down in the sun and read my book. The best present I could have - some time to myself to do something for me! I could have cleaned but instead I chose to pause for myself. I'm proud of myself for doing that.
My chocmint cupcake
The other cupcake options. I got to have strawberries and cream the next day
Alexander chose Oreo cupcake
Daniel chose choc brownie
Eliza chose Malteaser
James chose coffee and made himself an espresso to go with it
After dinner I sat down with the kids and we watched some of James and the Giant Peach being read out to us. Taika Waititi had different famous actors and actresses read along with him over different episodes the story. I loved it and so did the kids! The voices, the little comments, it was great. A fantastic thing to watch during lock down.
Thursday Alexander and I went to Mothers' Group and then Flynnie came over to have a play. I came home and enjoyed my other cupcake while the boys were busy.
We then had Mum, Dad, Jenny and Oscar around to our place for dinner. Mum wanted to make Chinese dinner for my birthday which was lovely (and yummy) but Covid rules said that you could only have 5 people around to your place. This meant that we all couldn't go around to Mum and Dad's place so instead everyone came to ours and Mum brought her cooked dinner.
I openned my gift from the Howies (which was a bit funny and a bit fun and a bit practical.
Eliza spotted my gift before I did
It was a Red Wiggles shirt. Random! But fun! Jenny loved my reaction. Ha.
Mum had also made cake for me. Everyone sang 'Happy Birthday' beautifully.
I also got a lovely bunch of flowers from my Bible Study girls which was very special and a lovely surprise.
