Art Inspiration - Vincent Van Gogh

Because doing the art gallery lessons was such a hit with the kids, one Friday afternoon where it was a quiet school day (catch up time really but we had already done all the lessons) I decided that we'd do 1 more art lesson. This time we learnt about one of Nana and Poppy's favourite artists, Vincent Van Gogh. Daniel wanted to do an Autumn Leaves art so I managed to combine the 2.

I found an artwork by Van Gogh called Autumn Landscape. It isn't one of his well known artworks but it met the requirements.

We watched a couple of youtube clips to learn a bit about Van Gogh and also see some of his artworks.

Then we looked at an art book that I had filled with Van Gogh's artworks.

We then looked at his artwork Autumn Landscape and discussed the brush strokes that Van Gogh used. And then the kids started their artwork.
Daniel did well with flicking brush strokes
Alexander started with the autumn colours

Eliza was so focussed
We talked about filling in the white spaces

Alexander's changed from being an autumn painting to a brown painting but he loved mixing the colours!

I love the colours on Eliza's
The kids wanted me to join in too so I did my own version of it. It was quite relaxing painting with the kids. Yes, I said it - relaxing, paint and kids all in 1 sentence!!
Eliza was very taken by the Sunflowers painting that Van Gogh did so she decided she wanted to paint that picture too. She did most of it by memory.

Our Van Gogh inspired artworks :-)
They again enjoyed being able to paint and learn about the artist. Might need to start thinking about more for the school holidays coming up.
