Today I decided to see again if Alexander had any teeth coming through and I found that he had some teeth that have just broken through. There are 2 little bumps on the bottom of the mouth. So another first - Alexander has his first tooth (well, teeth). I don't know when I'll be able to get some photos because anytime I try to see them he pokes his tongue over them. Cheeky boy.
Stop growing up please Alexander!!

Hanging Out
Eliza has started to love playing with toys pretending they're babies. The other day she was feeding monkey milk
And then insisted on carrying her baby properly as she walked around the house. Too cute!
While Daniel was having fun at preschool Eliza, Alexander and I enjoyed jumping on the tampoline. Alexander and Eliza decided to start climbing on me instead. They are cheeky little monkeys.
The kids each had runny noses so we missed Mothers' Group and headed to the Reptile Park for some time outside. The kids really enjoyed it! A lot of the animals were up and out of their sleeping spaces unlike other visits.
The bird eating spider was fascinating to see out and about.
And the echidnas were cute to watch walking around.
There were some new photo opportunities that the kids jumped to.
We decided that we'd get a photo with one of the animals using our passes. The kids decided to get a photo with a koala. They were pretty good a smiling for me.
But then forgot to smile when getting the proper photo.
All good. One day I'll get a photo with the kids smiling in it. Ha.
The highlight of the day though was (of course) the dancing spider at the entrance to the spider cave. They're so cute dancing along with the spider.

Painting
After Eliza being stuck at home for 3 days with her rubella and the weather being either too hot or too wet to play outside the kids were getting restless. They asked if they could do some painting and I decided that we'd give it a go. Normally I do painting only outside so that if any mess happens, it isn't inside. The kids amazed me with how good the were. I was quite firm in that they had to stay sitting while painting and they surprisingly did. I quite enjoyed seeing their creative juices flow.
Daniel wanted to draw a picture first and then paint like he did at preschool. He wanted to draw our family which I absolutely loved! He has come so far with his drawing.
He then drew a picture of his best friend Lachlan and himself. We spoke about giving it to Lachlan and delivering it to his letter box. Daniel then painted Lachlan's letterbox and house and the sun. He took great pride in delivering it to his house.
Eliza said she wasn't able to paint people or faces but she had a lovely time painting to the song 'put a spot over here and a spot over there...'. Fortunately she laughed and said no when singing 'put a spot on your ear and a spot on your hair'. She then did swirls and stripes too.
It makes me think that I will possibly do more painting with them... possibly :-)

Rubella
So last week it was pretty crazy. Eliza was diagnosed with Rubella. She has been immunised and we did all the right things. It was so out of the blue!
On Wednesday after being fine in the morning, when making lunch for her she came up to me holding her forehead saying that it was hurting. I asked her if she had walked into something and she said 'yes.' Not helpful. I made her lunch but she refused to eat it and kept clutching at her forehead. I asked her if she just wanted to go to sleep and she said yes so I put her to bed for her nap. After about 30mins she woke up saying that her forehead was still sore. I decided to take her temperature - 38.9. Ok. Panadol time. She had the panadol and went back to sleep. Around bedtime she started to complain again of her head hurting. I took her temperature again and it was 39.5. Not good. I gave her more panadol and that helped her go to sleep. Around 10:30pm she woke again and I took her temperature - 38.5 so I gave her some more panadol. She then slept the rest of the night which was good.
On Thursday morning Eliza's headache was gone (which was good) and her temperature was back down to low 37s. Both these things were good. Then I noticed that she had some spots on her feet. I looked at her tummy and she had spots there too. Looking closer she had spots from her head to her toes.
At nighttime her spots were still there but over the whole day she wasn't really fazed by them. I called up Health Direct to check if I should take her to the doctor but they suggested that I just keep an eye on them and if they hadn't gone after 3 days then take her to the doctor or if her temperature returned.
In the morning when Eliza woke up her spots were worse, particularly on her face.
I decided to call up the doctor and make an appointment just to be safe. We were able to get in so went to the appointment. Paul looked at Eliza and asked if she had any injections in the last couple of weeks. She hadn't. He took her temperature and it was still a little high (mid 37s). He looked at her ears and throat and both were clear. He felt her glands and said that there were quite a few there. He said that she had a mild case of rubella. There wasn't anything that he could do but she needed to stay away from pregnant people for the next 3 days and other kids (tricky to do with having Alexander and Daniel but other kids). Fortunately she was fine and her normal self - not really fazed by the rash which was good.
The rash was basically gone by Monday but I still kept her home from preschool pick up/drop off just to be safe (thankfully Mum and Dad were able to help out). Tuesday she was perfectly fine. What a random illness to have happen. I'm glad that she has had the immunisations because I'd hate to think how she would have been without some immunity in her body. Crazy times!

9 months out
Alexander is now 9 months old! Where has that time gone?
He has now been on the outside the same amount of time he has been on the inside.
He is growing up to be such a cute, cheeky, curious little guy. He loves commando crawling and definitely loves pulling himself up. The only problem is that he doesn't remember that he can't balance without holding on so he is getting quite a few bumps on his head. Poor little guy.
He has even started to pull himself up in his cot.
But everyone always comments about how smiley he is and it is true.
He has started to eat food on his own too - just small things like sultanas, cut grapes, sliced apricot and peaches. He seems to enjoy feeding himself and over the last couple of weeks he has started to get good at picking up the food and putting it into his mouth.
With Alexander turning 9 months though it makes me a little bit sad. I love him. I love watching him grow up. I love his cuddles. I love feeding him. I love his smile. I really enjoy having a baby around, and as he grows up, I don't have that anymore. A couple of weeks ago I passed on the capsule, bassinet and the baby bath to some young mums from a group of girls in need through church. I was really sad to pass them on. Even though I'm really glad that they are going to be used by others and that they're not just getting chucked out, there are so many memories with them. I just went through my photos and found the first time each kid used the capsule, the bassinet and the baby bath.
The capsule was used sooooooooo much! Having each kid be quite sleepy when they were little, they spent a lot of time sleeping in the capsule when we went out to places - to church, restaurants, friends' places. I was very sad that Alexander is too big for it. I am sad that we aren't going to use it again. It's funny to think that when we bought it we were worried it was going to be a waste of money. Now I think it's one thing that each person should get before having a baby (if they can afford it).
The bassinet was sad to part with after having each baby (including Oscar) sleep in it from when they first came home. Each kid slept well in that bassinet. The bassinet reminds me of how little they once were. It's sad that they won't be fitting into it again. I'm so glad that we had the bassinet to use when they were newborn.
The baby bath I was least attached to although it reminds me of the precious time that James had with each of the kids - Daddy bath time. I'm so glad that he got to give each of the kids their first baths. I'm so glad that he did most of the baths at home. I remember being worried about bathing Daniel the first time that I needed to because it was always something that James did and I was worried that I wouldn't do it properly or I'd hurt Daniel. James was always so relaxed and comfortable doing it.
I don't want another kid. I don't plan to have another kid. But it is just sad that that stage of my life has finished. I'm sad that I won't experience being pregnent again. I'm even a bit sad that I won't experience labour again and the precious experience that is (although I think that's a bit more because I won't be doing it again). Having babies is such an amazing thing. The way that your body adjusts and adapts when pregnant and when breastfeeding is fascinating. I will miss it but I am also looking forward to what the future holds and watching the kids grow up. (Sorry for my rambling).
Anyway, now that we don't have the capsule anymore, Alexander is pretty happy about his new car seat.
