Motilium

Today Alexander had his follow up weigh in at the early childhood centre. He had a decent feed before getting weighed and the nurse spoke with me about let downs, his sucking action and rhythm, his feeding times and how I felt he'd gone this week. I honestly didn't know how he'd gone this week. I thought he was feeding well and then he was weighed and had lost weight since leaving hospital so I had no idea with this week.

After feeding for around an hour, changing sides a couple of times, she weighed him. The positive was that Alexander has put on weight. 130g to be exact. The down side is that he should have put on 150-200g and he should be back to his birth weight. Instead he is now weighing 3.68kg - above his discharge level but not his 4.905kg birth weight. She also mentioned that he looks little which I had to agree with. His skin is quite wrinkly and not fitting his body.

So yes. The plan of action is to still wake him every 3 hours in the day for feeds, to swap sides when his rhythmic sucking stops and repeat a couple of times (left, right, left, right), to start taking motilium to try and boost my milk supply then to re-weigh him on next Friday. If he isn't back to birth weight by then I need to take him to the gp to get checked head to toe just to make sure that everything is ok and he isn't sick in any way.

So yes. I am feeling quite deflated at the moment and teary. I wish my body could produce the milk it is supposed to. I wish I could provide for my little man without intervention. But I did this with Daniel and it worked extremely well so I am hoping the same happens for Alexander. We will get there.
