Sometimes my kids get along nicely. Sometimes not so much. But the night before Daniel's birthday was a beautiful picture. James was up in Hervey Bay with his family. He had gone up to be close to his dad for the week because he just wanted to be close to them. The plan was to work up there but those plans changed because Malcolm went downhill pretty quickly on the Thursday and sadly passed away that night. I'm so glad that James was up there for that week! (I'll post about it later).
On the Thursday morning I got up to listen to the kids lying in Eliza's bed reading together. Daniel was reading a book to Eliza and Alexander was lying on the bed too reading his book. It was so cute to watch and listen to.
On the Friday I told the kids that Boompa passed away after we had a little afternoon tea party/playdate for Daniel's birthday. We sat on the couch and I told them then it was dinnertime and bedtime. I said that I was going to read with Eliza first. This lead to an argument with Alexander and Eliza about wanting to be read to first. I was tired and drained and just said in tears that there was one of me, and 2 of them so they'd just need to wait. Daniel then kindly came out of his room saying that he was happy to read to Alexander for me while I read with Eliza. What a sweetheart! I forget that he is able to read to the other 2. And it was such an amazing help to me! It settled Alexander down straight away and he loved having Daniel read to him.
Sometimes the kids can just be fighting, and at the moment it feels like that a lot more than be kind to each other, but them other moments there are times like this where my heart just melts because of their love and care for one another. It also meant a lot that Daniel wanted to do this help me out when he knew things were a bit full on.
