After a 4 year journey for Daniel having grommets he went in for his last operation on 17th May to get the last grommet out. Normally these fall out on their own but his one decided to stay in there. This operation made Daniel's 3rd visit to the hospital for an operation. He was such a trooper though. He patiently waited for his operation, watching the TV and reading his DogMan book.
We then went into the operating room where he needed to 'blow up a balloon' to go to sleep. He was fine. After 20mins I was told that he was out and I could go and sit with him. The Dr said that all went fine but he had a fungal infection in his ear so he needed to clean that out and then take out the grommet and patch it up so it took a little bit longer than normal.
Daniel's recovery from having his grommet taken out was so much faster than his other ones. He was sitting up eating an icy pole watching TV when I came in. He was a little bit dozey but he was nothing like last time.
He was very happy with his icypole. Once they were happy with how he was going we moved over to the recovery room where he again sat and watched the TV while eating another icy pole, he had an apple juice and he also had some cheese and biscuits. Daniel kept saying that this was his best breakfast ever!
They were happy with him eating, he was able to walk around and he was his normal chatty self so we were able to head home. Nice and smooth! Then yesterday we headed to his last ENT appointment where Dr Naidoo said that we didn't need to visit him again, all is good. Yay! He is now able to go swimming without needing plugs in his ears. He can dive down to the bottom of the pool. He can go under the shower without covering his ears. Yay!
So proud of how Daniel has taken all this in his stride. He has been so patient while he couldn't do all the same activities with the kids at swimming. He has not complained at all about having to wear his earplugs and his ear cover in the pool or at the beach. He is such a trooper. So proud of him. Hoping this is the end of operations for him for a long time though!
