Mummy's creative juices

I have also been getting a bit more creative for my kids.

One rainy morning I was thinking what Daniel, Eliza and I would do the whole day. I needed to get a couple of things from the shops before James went to work and I saw a $10 card tablecloth so decided to buy it and make a simple cubby house. I cut out a window for the kids to look out of and a door.

Daniel enjoyed playing in it for a little while but then the novelty ran out. I decided to try and make it a bit more interesting. Each night I did some painting and it was great to see Daniel look for his cubby house each morning and see what was added.

The first night I added a shop window and painted different food for Daniel and Eliza to sell. He had a great time in his shop and it was great to have the different fruit and vege from Christmas.

The next night I added a letterbox beside the door. Daniel just loves seeing the postman and getting letters from him so I thought it would be a good addition.
The problem is that the letters don't go into anything so he doesn't use it very much. I have no idea how to make it hold the envelopes when he puts them in though. Oh well. He uses the door well.

The next night I made a flower box for the window that was already there. I asked Daniel if he wanted to smell the flowers, he said 'No they're not real'. Oh well. They look pretty.

Then the last one I did was an apple tree. In the morning I asked Daniel if he wanted to pick an apple and he said 'No Mummy, they were just pretend.' That was until it was bedtime and then (of course) he wanted to pick the apples.

Here's the finished product.

Daniel's enjoyed playing in it a lot. He particularly enjoys the shop. He will at times get his kitchen in there and makes and sells me different types of food. His favourite one is pizza. I do enjoy seeing his imagination go. When making me pizza he told me "Oh dear Mummy, the oven is too hot to touch." I went and got him an old oven mit and he used it to get the pizza out. Bless! He also gets the mobile and uses it as his cash register.
After I 'cut my pizza' I gave him back the knife and he said 'I need to wash it up Mummy but I don't have a sink". I decided to try making a sink for him to use. I got an icecream container and cut out a hole for a toilet paper roll to fit in as the bottom of the spout. I then used 2 party poppers as the taps (which actually turn!!) and then attached a cup for the end of the spout. Lastly I cut out a space for the sink. We used his hair brush (that he's used maybe once) as the washing up brush. He loved it! But it needs to be a toy that Eliza doesn't use at the moment as it can be easily broken.
