Nappies and Sleep and Happy Father's Day!

After a number of attempts at putting Daniel into cloth nappies, this week we have success. His legs are now chubby enough to contain any surprises that come our way (most of the time) and his tummy is big enough to stop it all coming out the top! I am so glad that we are now about to use cloth. Yes, it does mean a lot more washing, and it is tricky to use the spray hose properly to clean them, without it all going around the bathroom, but it is much better for the environment and cheaper too (thanks Jens for giving them to us!). I will take a photo of him in them. It makes him look a lot bigger, but he is still cute. The first night I put him down in a new borns all-in-one nappy, but it couldn't contain it all, so he needed a full change and a bed change. Not so fun at 4 in the morning. Then I put him in a different one, but without a cover so again he needed a full change and a bed change at 7 in the morning. But fortunately I have seemed to work it out, putting 2 inserts in and using the covers for the other type.

Talking about sleep, Daniel is back to loving his sleep! On Sunday night when we got home from church and after Skyping James' parents (which was so lovely and we must do it more often!) I fed Daniel and then put him down at around 9:30pm. Now normally he would wake up at 1/2am for another feed, but instead he woke me at 4am! I had to stop and think if I got up at 1 for his feed and just couldn't remember doing it. But no, I hadn't. He had slept 6 hours straight and so had I! I was then expecting to have a pretty awake baby, but again, no. He went back down at 5 and slept until 8am. Then in the day he slept from 10:30 until 2 and then again had a good sleep in the afternoon. We then went to Bible Study at night and he needed a feed when we got there. So I fed him from 7:30 til 8:30 and then put him down. Annoyingly he didn't go to sleep, but positively he didn't cry. He just lay in his bassinet fussing around until we took him home. Popped him in the capsule and straight to sleep. Transferred him to bed and he went straight down and then didn't wake until 5:15 this morning! I got 7 hours straight of sleep. Because he slept so well he had a bit of a play with Daddy before James had to go to work. Then I put him down again at 8am. He slept for an hour. And now as I type he has been sleeping since 10am and it's now 1pm. Such a sleeper! It is really good, but a bit of me is worried that he is sick or that he's going to fall back into old habits where he doesn't wake for food. Yesterday he only fed 5 times in the day and so far he has only fed twice... I will weigh him again on Thursday (to get an idea of his weight with a cloth nappy on) and then in a couple of weeks time. Also if he does start to feed just 4 times in the day I'll give Anika, the community nurse, a call to ask her if it's ok. I want to ask at mothers group on Thursday but I don't want it to sound like I'm boasting about my champion sleeper, when I know that some other mums have crying babies a lot of the day or night.

Sunday was James' first Father's Day which is so surreal to celebrate. When I was writing his card on behalf of Daniel I was taken back by writing that James was a father. And I am a mother. I know it has been a couple of months now but still. It catches me off guard at times. His first present was letting him have a sleep in, so I got up and fed and played with Daniel until his 9am-ish feed when James woke up. Daniel and I then decided to give James his present.
Daniel ready to give James his present

A bonus present of some smiles too

Helping Daddy open the present

Yay for a tour of the SCG with Daddy. Now to find a date

Thank you kisses from Daddy

Because Daniel was dribbling so much, we thought it best to wear a bib. Being Father's Day it needed to have Daddy on it :-)
We then went for a walk around Westleigh together. That was very nice. Then we went to lunch with Mum and Dad. The food was very yummy, but the service not so great. Fortunately the company and food were great and Daniel slept right through the whole thing (champion!). Then after lunch James went to band prac and Daniel and I hung out at home. It was nice to spend the morning as a family of 3 and then to join up with mum and dad too. It is so nice to be able to take Daniel to places and have him go to sleep pretty well (most times). It makes adventures a lot more easy.

My sleepy boy has just woken. Feeding time now :-)
