To celebrate James' purchase of a new bike rack we headed to Bicentennial Park for a family bike ride. What else do you do the day before your 7 year old's birthday party? 4 of the 5 of us have our bikes. I need to get around to getting my bike from Mum and Dad's place, getting it checked at Turramurra Cyclery. We put the date in the diary and when the Saturday came around it was the hottest day! We contemplated moving it to another day but decided that we'd push through the heat and finish with a cool treat.
The bike rack worked a treat. James managed the Tetris puzzle of hanging the bikes up on it. Good thing that for this go there were only 4 bikes needing to go on. It is a bit tricky with the kids' bikes.
When we got to Bicentennial Park we hired a bike for me and then we headed off to find the bike road which the kids remembered from last time we were there. They had fun riding around, ignoring me crossing the pedestrian crossing. Lots of giggles were had.
We continued down to the look out tower and the ship graveyard before it was getting too hot and I also needed to return my bike. It was quite a hot day and Eliza in particular wasn't enjoying the heat. But I'm proud of each of the kids for pushing on with their riding.
We finished the time with lunch in the park and a quick play on the equipment before finishing with a cool ice cream as a reward for hard work on a hot day. Definitely keen to head back to Bicentennial Park to look a the mangroves boardwalk and also to get my own bike sorted so we can go on different adventures without having to hire and have a time frame to get back to return it. But maybe not before a busy day which requires cleaning, organising and cake making as well.
