Our local rural fire station held their annual open day and I took the kids to have a look. As we arrived they were doing a fire safety demonstration which we stopped to watch. Great to see what to do in response to different fires.
After the presentation the kids went over to have a look at the fire engine. There were some plastic fireman hats that the kids were keen to wear.
They then saw some fire extinguishers which had water going through them to spray at a witches hat, pretending that it is a fire. Daniel loved doing this! He was also quite a good shot too.
The kids then went into the smoke room to 'get down low and go go go'. What a great practical way to teach this concept to the kids. Daniel again really enjoyed it. Next we got some information from the firemen about preparing for Summer and making sure our place is fire safe. They are such a good group of people.
Next up there was another demonstration which the kids were keen to watch. It was the same thing but still interesting to watch, although Daniel didn't like the heat that came from the fire.
We had a sausage sizzle and then headed home. The kids played a bit of Fireman Sam, wearing the firemen hats which was pretty cute. Daniel was Fireman Sam, Eliza was Penny and Alexander was Elvis. I do love them playing together and including each other.
To continue the Fireman theme I put on some Fireman Sam episodes which they happily sat and watched.
What a great day! We will be back next year.
