After our staggered start back at school, Daniel returned to school on the 25th October and he was very excited to see his mates again. After all our hard work at home to focus and improve his handwriting and writing skills I made a little checklist that he could take in and use to focus on 2 aspects of his writing each lesson. I don't think that it was used very much but the idea was there. He said it was helpful to have, so even if it helped for a couple of lessons I guess that's a good thing.
I spent my first child free day in a long time watching Friends episodes while making my Friends Lego. It was very fun sitting, making and doing something for me.
On Thursday I had Alexander home with me again so I booked the Westleigh tennis court to finally take him for a play at the tennis courts. He loved it and he surprised me how good he was at hitting the ball over the net (which I really shouldn't have been surprised about because he's so good at cricket and hand-eye coordination). It was really nice to just hang with him and do something that he was keen to do. Poor kid has missed out on many one-on-one adventures these past 2 years, I'm keen to make the most of these times together.
The downside was it was such a hot day out there! We rewarded ourselves with a treat at Cafe SixandSeven.
The kids kept their creativity going after isolation. Daniel made a bed with a doona for Maurice who he borrowed from Nana and Poppy.
The start of Term 4 also brought the start of Cricket which was great for Daniel. He was playing in an under 11s cricket team. Being the youngest of the bunch his enthusiasm sure made up for any skills he was behind on. I loved his coach, Pete, saying that the team is a lovely little team who play for fun. They don't win any games but they enjoy playing and have fun. Perfect for Daniel's first proper season. He even took a couple of wickets in his first game.
Heading back to preschool was exciting but also a little tricky for Alexander. He was keen to have our little hug hearts drawn on our wrists again. He did say to me 'You don't need the heart drawn because yours is always there'.
I went and spent some of my time donating blood. They did a cool thing were the pressure bandages that you got after the donation was actually styled by Australian artists. My band was done by Eric Bridgeman which looked really cool. A bit of me wanted to get one by Ken Done after the kids learning about him for their art lessons during lockdown.
Life post COVID is also tricky though because as soon as one of the kids is a little bit sick we have to get a PCR and then they are home until they are better. This meant that some of my me days included one of the kids being around. James working from home still has offered flexibility too. If Covid didn't exist the kids would not have missed as many days of school.
This day, Daniel got to choose a movie to watch and he chose Home Alone. I loved it. Lots of giggles. I do like that he enjoys a movie that I grew up with. Look at that laughing face.
Super proud of Eliza who received 2 silver awards over lockdown time. She worked so hard and really did deserve to earn these. She was very proud of herself!
Out of lockdown also meant that family dinners could start up again too which was great. We really enjoyed seeing the Howies and Nana and Poppy and Auntie Sue. We could also catch up on missed birthdays, like Auntie Jenny's birthday.
Another thing that Alexander was super keen to do during our days together was to go up to the cricket nets and do some bowling and batting. He was very happy to be able to do that.
Onto of Eliza earning 2 silver awards at school, Daniel completed his Bronze awards book and was given a Bronze Citizenship badge at school. He has worked so hard to achieve this and he had a goal to receive this by the end of the year so I was really proud of him for pushing himself.
Eliza and Alexander also started Woolworths Blast cricket on Friday afternoons. Eliza actually has a good eye, she just doesn't get a huge chance to have a go because of her brothers. But they did enjoy playing together.
It is amazing how busy life becomes so quickly once lockdown has finished.
