Australia Museum

Each holidays I try to do a city adventure with the kids to catch up with Daddy for lunch. These holidays I decided to take the kids to Australia Museum. Anne and I had gone there a few months back and I thought the kids would like to go and see the dinosaurs as well as some other parts of the museum. We hopped onto the train to head to Museum station.

Daniel loved Museum Station. It was the first time that he had been to an old station and he was so interested in looking at the photos and information through the tunnel.
As we exited the station the kids saw the War Memorial and wanted to check it out. It was  really awesome to see their interest and respect when looking at the memorial and hearing about it.
As we headed down to the museum we walked past a statue of Captain Cook. We spoke about who he was and why there was a statue of him in the middle of the park. It was an interesting conversation with the kids - them hearing the way he treated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, how he discovered Australia for non-indigenous people. Eliza ended up asking 'Why does he have a statue when he wasn't a very nice man?' Then trying to explain that he didn't really know better at that time and that we can learn from his mistakes. It made me wonder how European Settlement is now taught in schools.

We then continued to the Australia Museum. It was great to have some hands on stations in the different exhibits.

They liked looking at the different stuffed animals that were on display.

We headed up to the dinosaur exhibition. The kids loved digging for the dinosaur bones, designing their own dinosaurs, looking at different skeletons, seeing hand and foot print fossils and learning more about dinosaurs.

We looked at other extinct Australian animals.
We also looked at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait section which the kids liked learning about how they used to fish, made canoes, caught animals, etc.

Just before leaving we walked through the stuffed birds section. The kids liked pointing out rainbow lorikeets,  kookaburras, cockatoos and other birds. As we left I saw a ibis. James always calls them bin chickens. When I saw one I asked Eliza what it is called and she paused... ummmm... Rubbish Pelican! I couldn't help but laugh.
We then headed out of the museum to Hyde Park and found Daddy for lunch. The kids were very excited to see him!
I told Alexander that we were going to go to the same park as his book 'Alexander's Outing'. When he saw James he said 'We are going on my adventure.' It took us a while to tie it back to the book. I explained that it wasn't his adventure it was the location of the book and we'd have lunch at the fountain in the book. Daniel then asked if we'd see the hole that Alexander fell out. I again had to laugh and explain that the hole was made up. Funny thoughts.

We headed over to the fountain, found some seats and grass and ate our sandwiches and fruit.

After lunch we said bye to Daddy and headed to St James' station to catch at train home. It wasn't as interesting as Museum but still had a cool picture of Hyde Park and the station entrance.
A train quickly came so we hopped onto it. Daniel and Eliza listened to their music on the way home
while Alexander enjoyed having some snuggles.
Alexander was a bit upset that he didn't have some music to listen to so the other 2 were kind enough to lend him their headphones for him to listen to Baby Shark.
Actions included. He was very happy.

Another fun adventure to the city.
