What do you do on a rainy day with 3 kids? Call me crazy. I decided to have a train adventure to the city to visit James for lunch at work.
After swimming lessons I brought the kids home for a quick shower and then we got dressed, put on gumboots and raincoats and we headed to the station. Fortunately the rain stopped while we walked from the car to the station. Daniel complained about having sore legs the whole way. I told him that my legs would be sorer from carrying Alexander and pushing Eliza. He didn't seem to agree.
Once at the station we had a short wait for the train. During that time it started to pour down!
When the train arrived the kids decided they wanted to sit upstairs. I managed to get them and the pram up to the seats. The kids were very excited to be on the train!
The kids were great on the train. They enjoyed looking out the window at the view, different trains driving past and commenting on the station names. When we arrived in the city we hopped off the train and headed up to the road. Now it was bucketing down! I popped Eliza in the pram with the cover on, Daniel had on his raincoat and Alexander was strapped to me in the ergo and I had my raincoat on too. It was then head down and we walked quickly and carefully to meet Daddy at his work. He ended up meeting us down on the street which was helpful and then we went to the foodcourt for lunch. The kids were very happy to see Daddy. Once at the foodcourt we managed to find a table. Alexander fell asleep again with the walk so had a bit of a nap while Daniel and Eliza cuddled with Daddy.
James then went and got lunch for us of salads to share. They were very nice!
Alexander then woke up and had some milk. He then wanted to have a cuddle with Daddy too.
James then enjoyed a cuddle with his kiddies.
We then went to the parents' room to feed Alexander and Daniel and Eliza had a little play with the toys there. The room was pretty nice (and I'm grateful for the cleaner who told me about the room).
We then headed back in the rain to get Daddy a coffee. Daniel enjoyed walking with his Daddy in the city.
We then said bye to Daddy and headed back to the train station. While waiting for the train we watched the lift going up and down. Then hopped onto our train to head home. The kids were again really good for the train ride home - reading, drawing, looking out the window.
Once back at Hornsby it was pouring down with rain again so we put back on our raincoats and headed back to the car. It was a really lovely day and a fun adventure with the kids, even though it rained. The kids really enjoyed the train ride and it was lovely to see James in the city.
I was amazed by the kindness of people during the trip too.
1. 2 guys offered to help get the pram onto the train
2. A man helped take the pram off the train.
3. A lady helped Daniel off the train
4. A man offered to carry the pram down the stairs when he heard me say 'Ok. Now we need to find the lifts.'
5. When walking in the rain a man came up with an umbrella and held it over my head. He asked me where I was headed and if he could help keep me dry. I declined his lovely offer as I was in a raincoat and he was in a suit and I felt bad if he got wet to try and help keep me dry.
6. A man offered to put the pram on the train to head home
7. A lady helped Eliza onto the train
8. A lady went out of her way to complement the kids for their behaviour on the train (which was very kind and lovely to hear. The kids were amazingly well behaved!)
9. The station guard helped Daniel off the train in the rain
10. A lady stopped the pram rolling back towards the train while I got Eliza off the train in the rain.
They all might have thought I was crazy with taking 3 kids out in this weather but it was very lovely to see people being so kind and helpful. I really need to try and do more adventures with the kids.
