So sick!

For Daniel's half birthday (Thursday) he decided to give me a present. It really wasn't all that kind for me though. During the night, my normally sleepy baby decided to wake up every 2 hours until around 4am and then every hour after that. I fed him each time besides at 12 when I held him and then he just fell asleep in my arms. He had started to get a cough and had a runny nose. I was thinking that he was getting sick. Not so fun. We took his temperature in the morning but it was normal. We decided to see how he went during the day. He was pretty good - mostly smiley and sleeping every 3 or so hours but his cough and runny nose had developed. We went for an adventure to head to the chemist to get a nose decongestant but on the way wonderful Jenny said she had a fresh one which we could use. That night we used the nose spray and the nose sucker - Daniel HATED it! But it did help him to sleep a bit better as he could breathe.

In the morning (Friday) Daniel started to lose his voice. It can be sad to hear a baby cry, but when they don't have a voice, it just sounds that much sadder! I took this video on Friday afternoon when he was ready for a sleep but I was trying to keep him awake until we got back home.

As well as still having a runny nose and a little cough he sounded very congested when he breathed which was worrying me a bit. After chatting with Julie about it all and asking her about when do you take him to the doctor, she asked if I'd like her to call the medical centre that Malcolm and she go to. I said that would be good. We got an appointment for 3:15pm. He fortunately timed his feeding and sleeping well so that we could go to the appointment with ease. The doctor was very friendly. He took Daniel's temperature and said that it was normal. He then listened to his chest and said that it was a bit congested. He then checked Daniel's throat and said that it was quite red. He recommended that Daniel have some antibiotics. We asked if there was another option as we want to limit the medication that he has when young, but the doctor said that because it was in his chest it was the best option. So off to the chemist we went to get his medication. By now it was almost time for Daniel to have a sleep, but we wanted him to have a proper sleep in his bed, not a short sleep in the car so I sat next to him to entertain him. James went into the chemist to get the medication, a probiotic and a cough medicine. It drives me crazy that chemists always make you wait a while for your script. Sometimes I don't get it. I messaged James to say that Daniel was losing it (hence the above video) so he dropped us home and went back. Daniel had a pretty good sleep. That night we gave him his medication and he was very good with having it from the syringe. It smells pretty sweet so I guess that's why he liked it.

On Saturday he was much brighter after having a better sleep that night, but he still didn't have a voice.
This is a video from on Saturday of him trying to laugh. Atleast he was more himself and happy and also went to sleep much better. He did a few long sleeps too during the day.

Basically it took until yesterday for him to basically sound like himself. Today we finished giving him the antibiotics so hopefully it has gotten rid of this nasty cold and he can enjoy the rest of his holiday :-) That's the plan atleast.

It was hard having him sick, being away from home, not knowing what was wrong with him and if it was serious or if it would pass. It was hard knowing that Daniel wasn't being his normal self, not being keen to eat his solids like normal. I am not looking forward to him being sick again, I guess you never do. Hopefully it won't happen for a while. It is nice to have my bub mostly back to normal now.
