Eliza's Swimming Lessons

Eliza has continued her swimming lessons and she is doing really well with them. She enjoys water which is great and doesn't mind going under the water anymore either. The poor thing gets quite cold though in the water and then after so I am hoping that it doesn't deter her over winter. Dad has been great with looking after Daniel for me each Thursday morning. They have had a lovely time going to the park with Daniel riding his bike and Poppy pushing it. The last couple of weeks Dad has met Daniel at swimming so he can see a bit of Eliza's lesson and then he has taken Daniel home pushing him while Daniel rides. They both love it which is great! Daniel will miss it while Mum and Dad are away.

Dad took some videos of Eliza's swimming lesson which is great to see.

I am loving the time together with her. It is a special time.

Our Little Walker

Eliza has continued to develop her walking and she is doing such a good job at it! On Friday after naptime and baths she seemed keen to do a bit more walking. She really grew in confidence in such a short time! Here are some videos of her walking around over Friday.

She started with walking holding onto my legs. A bit tricky walking backwards but she did well. I think she actually wanted to be picked up but she seemed to enjoy following me.

After bathtime Eliza started walking down the hallway holding the wall while Daniel played around her.

Then she did her best walking to Daniel and I (as well as a grumpy moment when Daniel took the fork.

Clever girl!

Toilet Training Continued

This week has been the start of proper toilet training for Daniel. We had nothing on Monday-Wednesday so I decided that it was a good time to start full day toilet training, with the exception of naptime and bedtime when he will still have a nappy.

Overall I have been really proud of him. He hasn't had many accidents and he has been pretty good at telling me when he needs to go to the toilet. He loves me singing a song when he goes to the toilet which seems to make him happy with his efforts. He has even said 'Mummy, sing' after going to the toilet. The song is just "Daniel did a wee in the toilet" repeated as well as a bit of a dance.

We have set up the toilet chair so he can be a bit more independent and he seems to be embracing it, at times telling me "Mummy, go away" and closing the door. We've also given him a step so he can wash his hands easily.

On Thursday we had Mothers' Group here and while I was doing something with Eliza I heard the toilet flush and then Daniel walked out. He had a big grin on his face and said "Mummy, I did a wee." That was fantastic!

On Friday just before naptime Daniel said "Mummy, I'd like to have my nap now before Eliza". This never happens! I agreed, had him sit on the toilet where he did nothing and then put on his nappy and popped him into bed. After about 5 mins he then called out saying he'd done a poo. I think he is cluey enough and wants to wear nappies for doing poos. No idea why because he has been fine prior to this doing them in the toilet. It's a bit frustrating and hard to not show any disappointment or pressure. He then did the same thing at bedtime. I hope that this will go away soon as I don't really know what to do.

Then this morning Daniel was very Daddy focussed (after being very Mummy focussed all week). While James was having his shower Daniel was dancing around. I asked him if he needed to go to the toilet and he said no. I then said to let me know if he needed to go and he ran into our bedroom saying 'No I want Daddy!'. I left him because he has been pretty good this week but after James' shower there was a big puddle outside the door where Daniel had had an accident. He had also done a poo in his undies. This was a big step backwards. I'm not really sure what to do. Do you force him to go sit on the toilet, or just leave it be and have him experience accidents but he will grow out of them. I really don't know. James was great and remained calm, cleaned it up and had Daniel sit on the toilet.

We also had our first big car trip and Daniel did a fantastic job, having dry undies for it even though it was an hour car trip. Well done buddy! Hopefully tomorrow will be the same for another fun adventure to visit some friends up the coast.

Oh the learning curve for him, for us.
